It's a rumor that's been going around and seems the only info I can get on this is just small snippets of a consistent claim that things fall off shelves and move on their own at night, apparently by the ghost of a little girl. Why a little girl? Before Shoppers Drug Mart renovated the area for their store, there was a San Francisco store in place, as well as other stores, but San Francisco is where this tale originated by staff, I think. That's where I first heard it from, anyways. Staff at the store claimed they would hear the cries of a little girl in the back of the store. So, whenever anything goes on in any part of the mall it's blamed on a little girl ghost. It does beg the question that if the claims, at all, are true, what happened when the large part of the mall was overhauled and renoed to fit in a big store like Shoppers Drug Mart? Would the little girl ghost continue to haunt the same area? Or would she have been released to venture in other parts of the mall? There is a YMCA attached to the mall, but not part of the mall. It's accessible by a long, very long and winding hallway on the 2nd floor. I think that hallway still exists. It's been a long time since I walked in that area. And there is also an apartment that has a skywalk attached to the mall and some of the residence use the mall and skywalk to access these areas after store hours, but when the mall doors are still open. Some of the people passing by claim they have experienced eerie sensations walking through the mall and have heard commotions coming from the closed stores. Staff have made claims, too.
Perhaps the eerie feeling is coming from the uptight security. This is the worst mall in Winnipeg. Most of the benches and seating areas, other than the food court, have been removed at the same time a very strict and heavily guarded rule was put in place about no allowed to sit on the big, marble planter edges. I mean, people have been kicked out unfairly for sitting on them for a couple seconds. The security has been accused of racism as they seem to, or have been accused of, targeting the aboriginals. I'm not aboriginal and I've experienced some horrible interactions with them.
The mall is a popular ground for drug dealers, gangs, homeless hangout mixed with staff from the mall and other people working at businesses close by.
The washrooms are unsafe and filthy. I caught a "cleaner" using just water to hastily wipe down the faucets and part of the mirror. And there is no door, just one turn into the women's washroom with a mirror that faces right into the washroom that anyone can look at without actually going into the washroom. The men's washroom is very close on the other end. It's very easy for some perv to just turn in the wrong direction and be in the women's washroom. I avoid this washroom at all costs. I would rather hold it and go to the ones in City Place Mall, a few blocks away.
Needless to say, this is a very unwelcoming place. The fountain used to be a star attraction. It has a waterjet that shoots high up and was surrounded by other water jets they stayed low. People would throw pennies in and kids would make wishes. The area was bright and people would be sitting and resting on the steps or the posts around the fountain. It's in a sorry state where the only working jet is the high shooting one but it doesn't even seem that the water is being filtered or run or anything. The theatres on the 3rd floor, the Odeon and Imax have closed. It's just a poorly run mall and the only good thing about it is HMV and the food court. Everyone wants it to be gone. Everyone who can think of better malls to be at avoid this mall.
Sorry, but I had to rant and warn you.
Anyways, if anyone can bring forth more information on the hauntings or provide any media evidence please do.Here's the fountain before the benches were ripped away from weary shoppers. Shopper's on the left there. The fountain actually looks somewhat decent in the picture. There were no plants last time I was there.
